What is 16bit?

16 Bit is a technical term used to describe computers or software programs that are capable of transferring data 16-bits at a time. A good example of a 16-bit operating system is MS-DOS, DR-DOS, FREE-DOS, and PIOS Emergency DOS.  The first versions of windows were 16bit. Windows 3.0, Windows 3.1 and 3.11 For Workgroups. The first 16-bit processor was the Intel 80286.
