What is a floppy disk?

A floppy disk is a thin flexible plastic disk coated in metal oxide and enclosed in a rigid plastic casing. There are two different verities of these disks.

• A high density disk that has a storage capacity of 1.44 Megabytes.
• A double density disk that has a storage capacity of 720 Kilobytes.

Both types of disks have a write-protect hole with a built-in tab which can be positioned to open or closed, defines whether write access is enabled or disabled.
